Asking for Self, Female, 33 years old, Lahore
AOA. I want to ask about Vitamin A also known as Retinol. Is it prohibited during pregnancy and breastfeeding? If it is so, then if i am taking a multivitamins, wouldn't it contain vitamin A?
-welcome and thanks for preffering Marham for your health Consultation.
- Dear it would be better in pregnancy have iron ,folic acid , Vitamin D with calcium but avoid vit A supplements .
- have heathy balanced diet with fish ,eggs ,vegetables ,,fruits and vegetables as it will cover necessary requirements of vit A .
- supplements need to be avoided as higher amount of vit A is dangerous cause hypervitaminosis can cause night blindness .
-best of Luck.
Daily requirement of vit A is 770 microgram and the source can be through food and supplements. Check the amount of vit A in your multivitamin. It should be below 770.
Excessive vitamin A is prohibited in pregnancu same is with retinol it contains higher doses of vitamin A thats y it s prohibited
Multivitamins designed for pregnancy contains lower doses of vitamin A which comes in normAl requirement
