person-avatar

Asking For Other, Female 29, Karachi

In 2nd month of pregnancy, her TSH levels were above 4, her gyne perscribed thyroxine 50 OD, unfortunately, the baby miscarried, last month repeated TSH and results were 2.2 which is within normal range. She's been continuing thyroxine 50 despite normal results, as per one doctor her thyroid levels are normal because of the medications she's been taking. Please advise whether to continue thyroxine or not? T4 and T3 were normal.

Thank you for the quick response doctors. My query is if we'll get the thyroid profile test, probably it'll come normal as she's taking thyroxine. Can we like stop it for 15 days and then get the thyroid profile to get the true picture of thyroid? Whether she's it or not. Pls guide.

You have to continue the medicine, but you have to adjust the dose, you may reduce it, repeat TSH every 3 months and adjust the dose. May be a low dose is good for you. You should not stop the medicine. In many cases, people have to take it for whole life, but to adjust the dose and repeat TSH every 3 month.
