High Cholesterol

Question

I\'m taking Lipiget 20mg daily for high cholesterol prescribed by cardiologist. I\'m also insulin resistant and have acanthosis nigricans and for it taking Glucophage 1g twice daily. Which statin doesn\'t increase glucose/insulin resistance between Atorva &amp; Pitava? If Atorva increases glucose/insulin resistance then it is bad for me as I\'m already pre-diabetic. If Pitava doesn\'t increases glucose/insulin resistance, then it is better for me. My lipids level are not too high. It usually remains under control while taking Atorva, when I\'m not taking it, lipids rises again but not too high.
Should I talk with doctor to change the drug from Atorvastatin to Pitavastatin?
Is Pitavastatin better choice in case of pre-diabetes/isulin resistance?

Hi
Current research doesn’t suggest people with diabetes should avoid statin medications. The American Diabetes Association recommends that all people with Type 2 diabetes be started on a statin. I know their is risk of insulin resistance with statins but its very mild and benefit overweighs the risks. So Doctors would recommend statins in type 2 DM with cardiovascular risk. All statins have same risk. Sometimes depending on LDL level doctors start less potent statin like pravastatin if LDL levels are slightly high and more potent like atorvastatin if LDL levels are more high. In my opinion there is no need to change as all statins has the same risk.
